DCPO: 2,256 cases filed vs. people breaching quarantine protocols
THE DAVAO City Police Office booked more than 5,000 violators during the quarantine period starting March 15.
Out of the total, 461 individuals were arrested for violating the local liquor ban ordinance.
Based on the police record from March 15 to Sept. 12:
- 1,488 violated the curfew
- 2,443 abused and misused their food and medicine passes
- 803 were flagged for failure to practice physical distancing
- 252 failed to wear their face mask
- 361 motorcycle drivers allowed pillion passengers without the required barrier
Capt. Rosario Aguilar, the DCPO spokesperson, said they filed 2,256 cases or about half of the total number of violators.
During the period of the modified general community quarantine from July 1 to Sept. 12, there were 141 individuals arrested for violating the liquor ban; 441 for physical distancing; 179 for face mask; 361 for pillion riding without barrier, with a total of 1,107.
Meanwhile, Mayor Sara Duterte will issue an executive order this week to lift the city’s liquor ban that she has imposed since April to minimize the possibility of transmitting the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) during drinking sessions.
The liquor ban is set to be lifted on Sept. 21.
The mayor, however, reminded Davaoeños that the executive order is not a license for them to go out and party. Instead, the decision was made to help business owners and people whose jobs are connected to the liquor industry.
“We did not lift the liquor ban for you. We lifted the liquor ban for the businesses and for the people who are working in the liquor business,” she said.
Despite the lifting of the liquor ban, the mayor stressed that beer houses are still on the negative list by the Department of Trade and Industry), so these establishments alike are still prohibited to operate.
