UPDATED: Monkayo landslide claims 10, one still missing

THE DEATH toll from the Monkayo landslide rose to 10 as rescuers recovered three of the four missing victims between 11:30 a.m. and 1:31 p.m. in the retrieval operations on Friday, Jan. 19.

The Monkayo LGU released the names of victims who perished in the incident:

  1. Gumatin, Catherine (27)
  2. Gumatin, Hannah (9)
  3. Gumatin, Dysna (3)
  4. Gumatin, Arjay (1)
  5. Gumatin, Cristelle(10)
  6. Gumatin, Ailee (8)
  7. Nenaria, Jomarie (33)
  8. Reboldad, Ritchell (35)
  9. Bitoon, Agnes (44)
  10. Saldua, Evera (35)

Meanwhile, 1-year-old Amara Kate Delola is still confined at the Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City after sustaining severe injuries.

Jergrace Cabag, Monkayo information officer, told TIMES that as of  3:30 PM, retrieval operations of the last missing victim, Rommel Gumatin, 45, will be temporarily ceased due to the risky situation of the site as sundown is approaching.

Mayor Manuel Zamora issued Memorandum Order No. 2024-015 on Thursday, Jan. 18 declaring forced evacuation due to continued intense rain, flooding, and landslide threats. Schools in the municipality were suspended on Friday.
