A POLICE team collared Friday four individuals who were allegedly holding an illegal cockfighting activity in Lower Madapo, Bankerohan.
Major Milgrace Driz, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Davao City Field Unit chief identified the suspects as Alejandro Cinto, 52, married; Reinario Lajera, 53, separated; Edwin Tonggoc, 34, married; and Albert Geralde, 38, married and all were residents of Purok 17, Lower Madapo, Bankerohan, Davao City.
A team from CIDG 11-DCFU and the San Pedro police station conducted the operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspects after someone complained of the illegal activity, also known as “tari-tari,” and resulted in the arrest of their arrest.
The police report said the four were caught conducting the illegal activity and yielded two fighting cocks, one of them dead, a gaffer knife and P4,000 in bet.
The city government has banned cockfighting after the gambling activity became among the first sources of the coronavirus disease 2019 infection in the city as top cockfighting aficionados in March even when the first infection cases were reported.
Some of those who were infected while attending the derby, some coming from other parts of the country, were among those who first died of the complications due to the virus even as health authorities reported the difficulty in tracing them down as well as those who were exposed to them.
