THE 3RD Mindanao Technology Business Incubators (TBI) Summit launched at the Pinnacle Hotel and Suites to inspire students and potential investors in fostering innovation growth and the development of local startups in Mindanao
As one of the main events of the Davao Startup Week 2024, the summit serves as a platform for sharing practices in supporting startup founders and attracting more investments in local startups of Mindanao.
In an interview with Mary Rose Ofianga, Wadhwani Foundation program manager for Mindanao, they are helping academic institutions by providing capacity building for the faculty and educators in teaching technopreneurship and entrepreneurship programs. This includes the latest technology of AI-driven powered platforms which is given to their partner organizations and institutions.
With the summit being held, industry experts will be able to share industry problems with the students of engineering and IT where they can come up with potential solutions.
Ofianga encourages engineering and IT students to have an entrepreneurial mind in building solutions to solve problems in agriculture, health care, education, and finance.
“These are the industries that we want to prioritize na yung mga engineers and IT students natin will be able to come up with solutions that these industries are willing to pay, willing to use, or willing to adapt,” Ofianga said on Sept 27.
Prof. Miguel Carlo S. Guillermo, project lead of IDEAS Davao, emphasized in an interview that universities are where innovations start, and TBIs important role in the startup ecosystem.
In Davao Region, state universities with TBIs are the University of the Philippines Mindanao Technology Business Incubator, Ateneo de Davao University ADDventures, University of Mindanao UMasenso Hub, University of the Immaculate Conception Marian TBI, University of Southeastern Philippines Agilab, Philippine Women’s College of Davao CHI+, and Davao del Norte State College BUGSAI TBI.
The 3rd Mindanao TBI Summit is organized by IDEAS Davao, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), Wadhwani Foundation, and Blue Economy Underpinning Global Sustainability through Adaptive Innovations (BUGSAI) TBI participated by students, investors, incubators, entrepreneurs of Mindanao, and visitors from other countries.
