3,000 personnel to secure Duaw Davao 2024

A TOTAL of 3224 personnel will be deployed to secure the Duaw Davao 2024 festivities from June 21 to 30, a Public Safety and Security Office official said Thursday.

During the iSpeak Media Forum on June 6, PSSO head Angel Sumagaysay said the average daily deployment for the nine-day celebration is 460.

“We will meet tomorrow (June 7) with the executive committee regarding the final security and safety plan before them,” Sumagaysay said.

He added the personnel will be deployed in various places of convergence specifically venues of the events such as Rizal Park, Davao City Recreational Gym, USEP Gym, Roxas Avenue, and San Pedro Square.

The security forces will come from support agencies including 592 from the Davao City Police Office; 994 from Task Force Davao; 344 from the City Transport and Traffic Management Office; 155 from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office; 610 from Civil Security Unit (CSU), 56 National Intelligence Coordinating Agency XI; 108 from Bureau of Fire Protection; 225 from City Environment and Natural Resources; and 140 from PSSO.

For road closures, Sumagaysay said there were no additional requests from event organizers for road closure from CTTMO, but they will still regulate traffic.

During Habi at Kape on May 29, CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude said they would close roads for the Duaw Davao Pride Parade on June 23 and Fiesta sa San Pedro Paghiusayaw on June 29.

However, Abude said the rest of the events do not entail road closure since they will be held in Rizal Park, USEP gym, and Almendras Gym.

Normal operations

Sumagaysay clarified the operation of the security force, especially the CSU is normal and has not changed a bit following the controversial dismissal of 37 CSU personnel after testing positive for illegal drugs.

Dili man siya apektado, and normal man ang dagan ng CSU, and padayon lang,” he said. However, he added it might have affected the morale of the force.

The official said the matter is still under investigation and they eye to tighten the drug test of applicants for the security force during hiring season.
