30 houses hit by fire; P750-K in property damage recorded

TWO SEPARATE fires in Barangay 76-A scorched 30 houses, displacing families and causing significant damage on Sunday afternoon.

The first fire broke out at 1:04 p.m. in Purok 26, Muslim Village, Times Beach.

According to Senior Fire Officer 4 Ramil Gillado, BFP XI intelligence chief, the blaze originated in the house of Samra Zacaria. The fire quickly spread due to the light materials used by most houses, ultimately gobbling 20 homes.

Firefighters and volunteers extinguished the flames at 3:42 p.m. Investigations point to electrical overload as the cause, with estimated damages reaching P500,000.

Unattended appliance sparks second fire

Later that afternoon, another fire erupted in Purok 4, Bucana Seawall.

Gillado identified an unattended plugged electric fan as the culprit. This fire consumed 10 houses, a chapel, and a daycare center.

Firefighters controlled the fire by 7:34 p.m., with estimated damage reaching P250,000.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in either incident.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is currently assessing the needs of the displaced families.
