3 months’ worth of salary for city workers not in lump sum

The salary for city government workers worth three months will not be given in a lump sum amount.

“We are working on the payroll for three months, but you will still receive it monthly. What I am trying to fix on this is that there will be no delay,” Mayor Sara Duterte clarified during an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio.

Duterte noted that “before there were delays on the salary because of the paperworks still in circulation yet to be completed.”

“These paperworks are required by the law. So, we are doing it now because people are already working from home,” she said.

On Saturday, the city government announced that all of its employees will be working from home starting Tuesday, March 31.

“Last weekend, we already mandated that everybody should work from home because some are already being required to (self-) isolation when exposed to positive (infection) and (some are) possible PUIs (persons under investigation),” Duterte said.

The mayor said those who are working delivering the essential social services, health security, and disaster-response services will still continue to work in full operation.

“While those tasked to do paperworks, they will do it at home and then the documents will be shuttled from one residence to another so there will be no delay,” she said.

Duterte said the only way to ensure that there will be no delay in the giving of salary is for them to fast-track all the documents.

“So that when the time comes for payday, the only thing that we have to wait for is th daily time record and submissions, as the other documents are already done,” she said.

She stressed that there is no reason for the city government to immediately release the salary for three months all at once.

“What we are saying is that there should be no delay in the salary. We in the city government of Davao are not like the others who were not able to get their salary because they lost their jobs. We still have our jobs,” she said.
