THE DAVAO Police Regional Office (PRO XI) has tightened security as the official election session starts with the filing of the certificate of candidacy (COC) on Aug. 28 for the Barangay and Sangguniang  Kabataan elections.

Authorities are training their attention at three barangays in the region identified by the Comelec as “areas of concern” for the upcoming election on Oct. 30.

Major Catherine dela Rey, PRO XI spokesperson, said two barangays are located in Davao del Sur and the remaining village is in Davao del Norte.

Meanwhile, the Comelec XI reactivated the Regional Joint Security Controls Center, which counts the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Department of Education, and the Department of Interior and Local Government as members.

The police also reminded gun owners about the start of the firearm ban, which will last until Nov. 29, 2023.

Those who hold a Permit To Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR) are not exempted from the gun ban except for law enforcers on duty and wearing uniforms. Gun owners must file for an exemption before the Comelec to bring their firearms outside the house.
