12 arrested in gun ban as checkpoints strengthened for 2025 elections

SECURITY forces have intensified checkpoint operations during the 2025 National and Local Elections and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections, resulting in 12 numerous arrests and the recovery of 19 firearms.

Data released by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) showed that from Jan. 12 to 26, 2025, a total of 645 checkpoints were conducted, involving 5,400 personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and 360 from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). 

These checkpoints resulted in a total of 279,360 man-hours of security operations.

DCPO-established checkpoints, with 42 daily checkpoints, accounted for the majority of 630 checkpoints and 5,040 deployed personnel. 

In terms of accomplishments, security forces recorded 10 positive operations, resulting in the arrest of 12 individuals. Authorities also recovered nine firearms and confiscated one deadly weapon. Notably, 19 firearms and one explosive were also surrendered.

Moreover, DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Caballero-Tuazon said the intensified security measures reflect their commitment to ensure a peaceful and orderly election in Davao City.
