10th ID: No movement of troops

THE 10th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army will not implement any drastic movement of its troops following the declaration of the region as insurgency-free.

“We are continuing post visibility patrol and, of course, the assistance, facilitation and livelihood, interventions coming from local government units. We are monitoring (the activities on the ground), ” said Major General Nolasco Mempin, commander of the unit, during the AFP-PNP press briefing on Wednesday at the Royal Mandaya Hotel.

Mempin said the unit will continue its activities to sustain the declaration in coordination with the police. He added that all units under the division will remain in their posts.

This is important, he said, so that soldiers can prevent members of the New People’s Army from establishing their presence in areas where they used to rule.  “Just in case na may mag attempt na bumalik or takutin ang community the soldiers are there,” he added.

He added that members of the police and their force multipliers are also helping in sustaining the efforts in maintaining peace in the areas.

On October 12, the Regional Peace and Order Council declared the region insurgency-free when it held its executive committee special meeting at the Felix Apolinario Naval Station, Panacan.
