109 soldiers, dogs cited for roles in landslide operations

THE 10TH Infantry Division recognized the 109 personnel and working dogs involved in the disaster response and rescue operations on Monday, Feb. 19 following a landslide at Zone 1, Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro earlier this month.

Major General Allan D Hambala, 10ID commander, pinned medals on the personnel of the 525th Engineer Combat Battalion, 10ID Emergency Response Company, 25th Infantry Battalion, 11th Regional Community Defense Group, and military working dogs. 

In the citation, the performance of the awardees proved their devotion to duty resulting in the rescue of 32 injured and the retrieval of 93 bodies.

In his speech, Hambala expressed his deepest gratitude to all the personnel who worked tirelessly during the conduct of the search, rescue, and retrieval operations in Barangay Masara.

“Your dedication and professionalism while putting yourselves in harm’s way are testament to the noble values that define our Armed Forces,” Hambala said at the 10ID parade grounds, Camp Gen. Manuel T. Yan Sr. in Mawab.

A large landslide struck the village of Masara, Maco on Feb. 6, prompting the 10ID to deploy personnel and assets to help the local government and rescue groups in the disaster response.
