THE AUTISM Society Philippines anticipates some 1,000 participants to join the “Angel’s Walk for Autism” starting at the SM Ecoland Annex Center from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on April 21, in celebration of World Autism Day.

During the Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM Ecoland, Imelda Rendon, ASP Davao treasurer, said they expect 1,000 families, students, and persons with autism to join the event as the program’s objective is to raise awareness about the developmental condition.

“This time, nakadaghan ang mga children with autism. So, ang among goal is really for them to receive services,” she said.

ASP also acts as a support group for families and refers them to schools with therapies for their children.

According to Uswaldo Parreñas, they will spearhead the program where participants are required to wear a green shirt as green symbolizes serenity and peacefulness. The event will also benefit the children and make them feel more included in society.

“We want them to be socially accepted and at the same time we want them to be productive also,” he said.

The ASP is a national and non-profit organization that aims to empower persons with autism to reach their potential, become independent and productive, and be socially accepted in the country.

The organization was established in 1989, with 13,000 members in 100 chapters in the country providing services to families and individuals affected with autism.
