AUTHORITIES arrested ten individuals for violating the Commission on Election (Comelec) gun ban from Aug. 28 to Sept. 5.
Major Catherine Dela Rey, Police Regional Office (PRO) XI spokesperson, said six of the suspects were from Davao City, two from Davao del Norte, two from Davao de Oro, and one from Davao Oriental.
Three of the suspects were arrested during a buy-bust operation, but most of the operations were carried out due to an anonymous tip from a citizen.
She said they seized assorted firearms like a .45 caliber pistol, .38 revolvers, and an improvised rifle.
Despite the arrests, however, she said the region remains peaceful and they did not record any election-related violence. Nevertheless, the police continue to monitor the Barangay and Sanggunian Kabataan Elections.
Moreover, the police and the military continue to mount checkpoints in the city and throughout the region.
Meanwhile, Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office, said Colonel Alberto Lupaz, the city police director, directed all station commanders to monitor their respective jurisdictions to ensure peaceful elections.
