By Rhoda Grace B. Saron and Carmelito Q. Francisco — VICE PRESIDENT-elect Sara Duterte has cautioned the incoming mayor of the city, younger brother Sebastian, of the worsening economic situation brought about by the impact of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“(The situation is) challenging as the hardship will worsen because of the effect of the war in Russia and Ukraine,” said Sara
, adding that the situation is peculiar to her brother who has “witnessed politics” growing up.
In the last episode of the special hour of the mayor at the city government-run Davao City Disaster Radio Monday, she said the city government under him must push for “what makes us competitive in the entire country as a city (we) hope that it is also what he will give attention to.”
Sara made the comment just about an hour before her brother took his oath of office.
Among the key programs that she hopes her brother should focus on should be infrastructure, how to jumpstart the economy and governance.
Sara, the second child of President Rodrigo Duterte with Elizabeth Zimmerman, said the constituents of the city want “a livable city.”
“We are hopeful and we are excited that we have a new mayor in the city of Davao,” she said, assuring her brother that her new office will be open to him for consultation or he wants to seek help for the city.
Meanwhile, Sara also thanked the employees of the city government for supporting her administration.
“Ang kusog sa mayor maggikan lang unsa ka kusog ang mga empleyado ug chiefs of offices. Ang inyonang luha, dugo ug pawis sa pagserbisyo sa atoang syudad, taken together tanang efforts sa mga empleyado nato – that is the success of the City Government of Davao,” she said during the program.
She also thanked the residents of the city for their support. “”In fact, it was truly an honor to be the top performing mayor during a pandemic pa na ha. Gihatag na ninyo na honor, pasalamat ko sa inyong tanan. Akoang balsan sad na akong gihatag na ninyo na honor, pasalamat ko sa inyong tanan sa akong trabaho para makakita ta ug malinawon na pagpamuyo sa atoang nasud,” she said.
