Water scarcity remains a problem of the Badjao community in Brgy. 23-C, said Barangay Captain Alimodin Usman Al Haj.“We have already proposed to the water district to change the pipe, we already wrote a letter of request for a meeting but until now, there’s no response from them,” Usman told TIMES on Monday.
He added that the barangay council has been lobbying for this request to the Davao City Water District (DCWD) after the fire broke out in the Badjao community way back 2014 which resulted to damages in the pipe lines.
Usman said they wanted to change the water pipe into something bigger that could transport enough water to all the households.
According to a resident in the area, the water usually goes off every 3 am and they only experience heavy water discharge at 8 pm.
Over 200 houses were razed by fire last Feb. 20, the fourth fire incident in the area since 2014.
According to Usman, pipe would reach an estimated cost of one million pesos and DCWD reportedly told them, they are still finding ways to acquire enough amount to cover the cost.
“Water District said that this problem (water scarcity) is due to the growing population in the city and households,” he added.
In Brgy. 23-C, there are about 30,000 residents without access to water.
