Christmas came just in time for families of overseas working Filipinos as BDO gave a fitting appreciation for them with the Davao leg of the annual Pamaskong Handog of BDO and SM Supermalls last Saturday, December 14, at the SM City Davao Annex.
Now on its 8th year, the event is BDO’s way of celebrating Christmas with a fun-filled variety show that featured comedian Ate Gay, “Tawag ng Tanghalan” champion Elaine Duran, OPM band REO Brothers, ABS-CBN love team Edward Barber and Maymay Entrata, and BDO brand ambassador Piolo Pascual.
During the program, BDO Remit’s partners WorldRemit, MoneyGram, Western Union and Small World gave away prizes during the raffle draws and shared tips and advice on financial education. BDO Remit, the bank’s global remittance service brand, advocates for financial education focusing on the value of saving and
investing.
“We must teach our OFWs on how they can protect their hard-earned money by allocating a portion to savings and investments, which can serve their long-term goals,” said BDO Unibank senior vice president and head of remittance Genie T. Gloria in the press con.
Over the years, BDO Remit and its government agency partner, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, have been educating OFWs on how to properly manage their earnings.
To bolster their endeavor, BDO Remit regularly holds university roadshows to impart to students, especially those with OFW parents, on how to spend their allowances wisely. They also visit far-flung barangays to brief communities on the importance of being a part of a formal banking system.
BDO also introduced the Kabayan Savings, a flagship product of BDO Remit, which allows OFW families to receive remittances in minutes. With just an initial PhP100 deposit and a valid ID, one can have a passbook and an international ATM debit card. One can also enjoy zero maintaining balance with at least, one remittance transaction within two years. Account holders also enjoy exclusive access to events, treats and discounts as well as free life and accident insurance for the remitters (conditions apply).
“Apart from these, we continue to actively participate in the pre-departure orientation seminars of OWWA, in the hope of helping departing OFWs to have a better financial behavior,” Gloria added.
The Davao leg of Pamaskong Handog was hosted by comedians MC and Lassy.
