SHOULD former President Rodrigo Duterte is elected as mayor, Davao City will “definitely” have an absent mayor, Vice President Sara Duterte said on Monday, May 12.
After casting her votes in Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, the vice president faced the media in a press conference outside the polling center.
Asked if the city will expect an absentee mayor, VP Sara answered, “Definitely yes.”
“Wala talaga siya dito, so expectation namin ay mag-acting mayor ang vice mayor,” she added.
The vice president said the legal team of FPRRD has initial discussions on how he will take the oath as a mayor, assuming he will win.
“Pinag-uusapan namin ng kanyang ICC lawyer at Philippine lawyer, paano siya maka-oath as winner ng mayoral contest, pinag-usapan namin yan noong isang araw,” she said.
The ICC lawyers told her that once the party gets the proclamation papers, they will discuss the oath-taking matters. Nevertheless, they have enough time from the day after the proclamation until noon of June 30 for the oath-taking, she added.
FPRRD is running against former Cabinet secretary Karlo Nograles and Christ the Healer International Missions Movement Bishop Rodolfo Cubos for the mayoralty race. Duterte said her father wasn’t able to vote this time because he wasn’t registered for absentee voting.
She revealed that her father’s lawyers requested the Comelec to allow him to vote outside of the absentee voting protocol, but he was denied approval.
