The City Veterinarian’s Office (CVO) will conduct mass vaccination in selected areas of the city as part of intensifying anti-rabies campaign.
On Monday, the CVO will kick-off the mass vaccination activity in Agdao, Toril and Buhangin. On the following day, the event will be in Malagos.
“We will also have education and information campaign on what is rabies aside from vaccination,” said CVO head, Dr. Cerelyn Pinili. The activity is in observance of the Rabies Awareness Month.
On March 13 – 14, they will conduct free castration for dogs and cats in Barangay Matina Crossing to control population.
“Actually, we don’t have spaying for now because we have no anesthetics to perform ligation for female dogs so we’re now relying on castration,” she said.
On March 15, the CVO will hold another Veterinary Integrated Barangay Extension Services (Vibes) in Barangay Acacia, Buhangin.
Pinili reminded pet owners to cooperate on their house-to-house vaccination to ensure success of the anti-rabies campaign.
For stray dogs, CVO personnel will be using loops to vaccinate them.
Last January, one rabies case was reported in Talomo District that prompted them to conduct quick reinforcement.
CVO targets to vaccinate 70% of total canine population in the city this year.
Pinili said there are around 150,000 dogs in the city, owned or strayed dogs.
In 2018, CVO vaccinated about 119,000 dogs.
