AN UNATTENDED blue backpack at the parking area of McDonald’s in Catalunan Pequeño triggered a security alert on Tuesday morning, Dec.3.

Police Station 17 (PS17) received a call from a concerned citizen at approximately 8:55 a.m. reporting the unattended bag.  Officers immediately responded to the scene, cordoning off the area and providing security.

According to security guard Ronnie Derechieo Baguios, a customer had initially alerted McDonald’s staff about the bag around 7:30 a.m.

The Davao City Police Office’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and K9 teams were called in to investigate. Upon inspection, the bag only contained clothing and other personal belongings.

PS17 is currently conducting further investigation to identify the owner of the bag.

Meanwhile, DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon said this incident serves as a reminder to the public to be mindful of their belongings and report any suspicious activity to authorities. While this case turned out to be a false alarm, she said vigilance is crucial in maintaining public safety.
