AT LEAST two Philippine eagles are waiting for sponsors as they continue to thrive at the Philippine Eagle Center in Malagos, Calinan District.
In an interview, Dr. Jayson Ibañez, Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) director for research and conservation, said the adoption is part of their fundraising program which aims to foster the continued survival of the species.
“We are hoping na merong corporate partner or organization that would adopt the two eagles, including the recently rescued Philippine eagle from Mt. Apo,” Ibañez said.
Currently, the Philippine Eagle Center houses 34 eagles, with 32 already adopted by various private organizations.
Ibañez said adopting an eagle costs P200,000 per year for the maintenance and its further conservation and research, or an option of P600,000 for the species’ three-year lock-in support.
“Because of the in-support ng mga adopters, na-maintain ‘yung health and well-being ng mga adopted birds,” he added.
The PEF also receives an annual subsidy of P2 million from the city government, in continuous support of the said species.
