Two killed, including infant, in tragic Marilog road crash

A COLLISION between a motorcycle and a van in the Marilog district claimed the lives of a mother and her one-year-old son around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, along the Davao-Bukidnon Road. 

Marlon Bermanos Baclas, 22, was driving a motorcycle with his wife, Lea Landas Baclas, 19, and their one-year-old son, Mark Lester, as passengers.

According to the report, they were driving from Bukidnon toward Davao City when their motorcycle collided with a Hyundai Starex van driven by Danny Gumanban Casas, 52, who was heading toward Bukidnon.

According to the van driver, Casas, he was driving in the inner lane when the motorcycle suddenly encroached into his lane, leading to the collision. The impact tragically killed the wife of Baclas and her infant son at the scene

While the motorcycle driver, Baclas sustained injuries and was transported to the Southern Philippines Medical Center by responding emergency personnel.

Casas was unharmed and is currently being held at the Marilog Police Station for further investigation. 

For now, the police are conducting further investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and whether any charges will be filed.

Moreover, the Davao City police said the tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and cautious driving, especially on winding roads like the Davao-Bukidnon Road.
