Trike passenger killed in road crash involving stray dog; driver faces charges

A 62-YEAR-OLD man died on the spot after the tricycle he was riding ran over a stray dog on Jan. 1, around 3 p.m. along Purok 8, Barangay Bato in Toril district.

Initial investigation revealed that Crispin C. Liatan, 44, was driving a Kawasaki tricycle with passenger Antonio Angoy Belonia when the dog suddenly crossed the street.

The impact threw Belonia from the tricycle and slammed on the road railing. He succumbed to fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, Liatan sustained minor injuries but refused medical attention from responding emergency personnel. He was brought to Toril Police Station for further investigation and proper disposition.

Belonia’s remains were brought to TCC Coop Funeral Parlor while the damaged motorcycle was impounded at the Toril Police Station.

The driver has been charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
