A LAWMAKER said Tuesday the P100-M transient shelter for disaster victims is still pending in the City Housing Office for necessary documentation.
Councilor Diosdado Angelo Mahipus Jr., committee chairperson on disaster risk management, said while the plan is already in place, the appropriate location for the facility is yet to be decided.
“It’s still pending in our City Housing because we are looking for the most suitable land for that structure,” Mahipus said during the Aprubado sa Konseho on Tuesday, February 18.
He stressed that the City Housing Office is still conducting its study and inventory of all properties for legal documentation.
While the city has a property in Mintal, it is still in contract with the National Housing Authority for their proposed establishment of socialized housing units.
He shared that the price of the proposed units of NHA was quite costly given its small area, so the city government is looking to cancel it.
“Kung di nila gamiton, mauli sa ato ang yuta, basin pwede kita na lang motukod didto, because we cannot unilaterally do that because we signed a MOA with them,” he said.
The councilor added that if the structure pushes through, an ordinance will provide guidelines to prioritize those living in danger zones who wish to transfer but have no means.
The ordinance will also incorporate the legal basis for the length of stay, or minimal fees if the need arises, and the basis for selecting the beneficiaries.
Danger zones include those in the immediate vicinity of bodies of water such as creeks, rivers that are affected during flash floods, and landslide-prone areas.
Mahipus shared that the proposed ordinance entitled “Ordinance Establishing a Safe, Secure, Disaster-Free Shelter Community for ISF in Danger Zones” is up for second reading.
