General Torre designated as CIDG director; promoted to two-star rank

POLICE Regional Office XI (PRO XI) director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III has been designated as the acting director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police effective Sept. 25, 2024.

With this appointment, Torre is promoted to a two-star position.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Victor Zamora Rosete will replace Torre as the acting regional director of PRO XI, also effective Sept. 25, 2024.

According to a copy obtained by TIMES, the order was signed by Police Lt. Gen. Jon Arnaldo, the chief of the directorial staff, and approved by PNP Director General Rommel Marbil.

On Wednesday, PRO XI spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey said they have no schedule yet for the change of command ceremony at the regional police office.

Torre faced heavy criticism for his actions during the more than two-week operation at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound. Many questioned his tenacious approach in implementing the arrest warrant against Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, who eventually surrendered on September 8.

Despite pressure from some elected officials, Torre remained unfazed and continued his mission, even when public perception suggested the operation had failed.

Torre assumed the post as the new Police Regional Office XI director in a ceremony officiated by Major General Benjamin Silo Jr., commander of Area Police Command- Eastern Mindanao, on June 16.

He replaced Brig. Gen. Aligre Martinez who was relieved 45 days after being sworn in as the PRO XI chief.
