Suspect in hammer-slay of beautician arrested

THE PRIMARY suspect in killing a beautician with a hammer was arrested at 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, in Malalag, Davao del Sur.

In an interview on Monday, Captain Hazel Tuazon, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the suspect as alias Arbie, 22, Kent Lubaton’s boyfriend, and the prime suspect in the crime.

Lubaton, 30, was found dead inside the house where the couple was staying in Goldland Subdivision, Bago Aplaya at 6:46 p.m. on July 14.

According to a witness, the victim and Arbie had been drinking on Saturday night. However, the following morning, Sunday, at 8 a.m., the boyfriend reportedly left.

The witness did not hear any noise or argument during the couple’s drinking session. However, on Friday morning, July 12, at 10 a.m., the couple allegedly had an argument that resulted in a physical altercation.

The victim’s body was recovered with head injuries due to being struck with a hammer by the suspect, Tuazon said.

She said the suspect admitted the crime and said the motive of the killing is due to jealousy. He is now detained at the Baliok Police Station while preparing for the filing of a murder case.

Meanwhile, the body of the victim was brought to Villa-Gan Funeral Homes in Toril.
