Strong frontrunners

  • Latest UM-IPO survey reveals Dutertes remain the names to beat in May elections

SIX IN 10 Davaoeños will vote for President Rodrigo Duterte as mayor for the mid-term elections, trumping all challengers including perhaps the strongest contender, Karlo Nograles, who received 10% of the nods from survey respondents.

The Institute of Popular Opinion of the University of Mindanao conducted a survey to determine the pulse of voters on the current candidates in the coming local elections.

The survey was conducted on Jan. 8-28, 2025 across the three districts of Davao City covering 2,582 registered voters who responded to the face-to-face survey using a 2% margin of error and a confidence level of 95%.

Meanwhile, 55.7% will vote for Baste Duterte as vice mayor with Third District Councilor Bernard Al-ag a far second at 14%. It is interesting to note, however, that about 3 in 10 voters are still undecided on who they will vote for.

For the first district, 54.8% will vote for Paolo Duterte as Representative of the 1st district followed by Migs Nograles with 16.1% while 28.8% are still undecided.  The top eight candidates for councilors include Duterte, Quitain, Bonguyan, Ibuyan, Militar, Acosta, Librado, and Ocampo.

For the second district, 4 in 10 respondents will vote for Omar Duterte with Javi Campos trailing behind at 23.4%. More than 3 in 10 are still undecided. The top eight councilors include Dayanghirang, Alejandre, Dayap, Bonguyan, Mahipus, Justol, Apostol, and Abella.

For the third district, 4 in 10 will vote for Ungab, 2 in 10 will vote for Al-ag, while around 34% are still undecided. The top eight councilors include Advincula, Dalodo-Ortiz, Zozobrado, Ungab, Baluran, Principe Villafuerte E, and Villafuerte, P.

UM-IPO said that the significant number of undecided implies the need for candidates to show their platforms and plans for Davao City.
