Stranded whale rescued

The Philippine Coast Guard Station Davao successfully rescued a stranded sperm whale in the waters off Purok 2, Kanto Punta, Dumalag, Matina Aplaya, on March 6.

The sperm whale, measuring approximately six to seven feet in length and weighing around 90 kilograms, had sustained minor yet visible wounds and scratches from its tail fluke.

Personnel from CGS Davao, along with Special Operations Unit- South Eastern Mindanao (SOU-SEM, promptly proceeded to the area to verify and monitor the whale’s status, providing necessary assistance upon realizing its stranded condition.

Moreover, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) personnel arrived to conduct an assessment ensuring the mammal’s safety.

Through the collaborative efforts of the rescuers from various agencies, they were able to safely release the sperm whale into deeper waters.
