THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) reminded motorists to stay cool in responding to aggressive drivers following the road rage incident along R. Castillo Street at 6:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8.
The road rage incident between a Grab car and a motorcycle driver went viral on social media.
“Pahimangno lang namo sa mga drivers nga dili mag init ang ulo labi na kung traffic para maka iwas ug problema sa kalsada (We would like to ask drivers not to be hot-headed, especially during traffic to avoid problems on the road),” Captain Hazel Tuazon, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson, said in an interview on Monday.
Instead, she urged motorists to call the police immediately to resolve misunderstandings peacefully.
According to the DCPO’s report, the grab driver alias John reported that upon reaching the corner Celi Senior Street, an XRM driver, alias Roy, with a female backrider flagged down his unit and accused him of bumping the rear portion of his motorcycle.
John reportedly apologized and suggested that they move on as they already caused traffic congestion.
However, a few meters ahead, Roy caught up to John who stopped due to traffic. Both the motorcycle driver and his passenger, Mary, shouted at him to get out of the car. Not content, the driver used his helmet to bash the car’s window.
He parked the car to come out where he was ganged up by the two. Bystanders intervened before the situation got even worse.
The motorcycle driver and his passenger told police that the Grab driver hit them, which caused them to almost fall to the ground.
Tuazon said the case was referred to the barangay and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) was already informed about the incident.
“Tawag sila sa police hotline, kuhaon ang plate number, ipa blotter. Atong ipaagi sa sakto nga process dili ipaagi sa kainit sa ulo ang problema sa trapiko (Call the police hotline, take down the plate number and file a blotter. Let’s follow the proper process instead of losing ourselves to rage when dealing with traffic problems),” she said.
