SP passes nearly P639-M under Supplemental Budget 2

THE 20TH City Council on Tuesday passed on the final reading Supplemental Budget 2 amounting to P638,906,692.47.

During the Aprubado sa Konseho, Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, chair of the committee on finance, ways and means and appropriations, said the budget comprises the general fund proper, development fund, and economic enterprises for fund infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects in the city.

The supplemental fund consists of General Fund Proper worth P507,531,498.71; Development Fund with P117,756,500.00 and enterprises enterprises where operations of public markets are worth P13,302,064.19, slaughterhouses (P276,043.72), and cemeteries (P40,585.85).

The SB2 also allocates funds for salary increases of plantilla personnel, in line with the Memorandum Circular 160 series of 2024 from the Department of Budget and Management.

Ortiz added that P2 million under SB2 is allocated to augment services such as burial assistance programs to indigent senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and solo parents.

The upcoming annual Pasko Fiesta, which will be launched on November 28, is also allocated an amount of P30,143,000. The total budget for the celebration is up from P45 million last year to P50 million for this year’s edition.

Lingap sa Mahirap program- a poverty alleviation platform of the city government that provides free medical assistance to Dabawenyos, has also allocated P200 million from SB 2.

The funds for the supplemental budget came from the surplus from the CY 2023 operations amounting to P300,371,907.67, and the reversion of the appropriations for 2023 and 2024 worth P398,182,327.76.

SB 2 was passed on Tuesday with no objection. To recall, Councilor Bernard Al-ag questioned the P354 million allocated for capacity building under the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) in the SB 1 saying it is overly “excessive.”

The 20th City Council approved the P2.21-billion Supplemental Budget (SB) 1 for the city government on Aug. 13.
