Social media post about alleged abduction sparks police investigation

THE BUHANGIN Police Station conducted an investigation following a social media post circulated online about an attempted abduction in Barangay Communal.

The post, made by Rica Rose Sebial Movilla on Facebook on Jan. 26, 2025, claimed that her sister, Rhenda Lee Movilla Magarin, was almost abducted while waiting for a tricycle.

Movilla stated that a black van with no license plates stopped beside her sister and the driver attempted to engage her. Rhenda allegedly became alarmed and ran toward Rica. The van sped off in the direction of Ponte Verde.

Following the post, Police Station 5 coordinated with Barangay Communal Kagawad Silivino Millosa Jr., to investigate the post.

Upon interviewing Rica and Rhenda, it was determined that while the van did stop near them, there was no evidence of any attempt to harm or abduct Rhenda.

A subsequent post by Movilla on Feb. 1, 2025, claimed that a woman’s cries for help were heard near their residence. However, upon investigation, no missing person was reported in the area.

Police Station 5 emphasized that disseminating unverified information on social media can cause unnecessary panic within the community. Officers urged the public to report such incidents directly to the nearest police station for proper assessment and action.

Meanwhile, the police station and Barangay Communal officials will continue to conduct regular patrols and monitoring in the area.
