SIX LOOSE firearms were surrendered in Paglat, Maguindanao del Sur, through the efforts of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry (Makasag) Battalion, led by Lt Col Felmax Lodriguito Jr.
The turnover ceremony involved Hon. Abdulkarim Langkuno, representing Paglat Mayor Hon. Raisa P. Langkuno, along with local government officials and PNP counterparts.
The surrendered weapons included an improvised .50 caliber Barrett rifle, an improvised shotgun with two rounds and a magazine (from Barangay Damakling), an improvised M79 grenade launcher (from Barangay Poblacion), two improvised M79 grenade launchers with one round of ammunition (from Barangay Campo and Brgy. Kakal), and an improvised RPG with one round of ammunition (from Barangay Salam).
Col Ronel Manalo, commander of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade, formally received the firearms.
Manalo stressed the significance of surrendering illegal firearms, calling them “tools of violence” and a “major threat to peace and order.” He urged other communities to follow this example to foster lasting peace in the region.
