Six injured in a head-on collision in Marilog; another four hurt in a separate crash

SIX INDIVIDUALS sustained injuries after a head-on collision between two vans in Barangay Marilog Proper, Marilog District, around 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2.

The Davao City Police Office reported that the accident involved a Nissan van (KAD 1032) driven by Klein Sarigumba Arabejo, 29, and a meat van (KAO 5041) driven by Kent Lenoel Sugabo Subugon, 23.

Initial investigation revealed that the Nissan van was traveling along the Davao-Bukidnon National Highway from Bukidnon to Davao City. Upon reaching a straight, descending portion of the road in Barangay Marilog Proper, the meat van allegedly encroached into the vehicle’s lane.

Arabejo, the Nissan van driver, swerved to avoid a collision but the meat van driver corrected his course, leading to a head-on impact.

The collision left one passenger in the meat van trapped in the front seat with serious injuries. The individual was successfully extricated by responding to 911 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) personnel. The two drivers and three passengers of the Nissan van suffered minor injuries.

Subugon, the meat van driver, admitted to falling asleep at the wheel, contributing to the accident.

Meanwhile, the Marilog police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Barangay Malamba in Sitio Lanitum, Barangay Malamba, Marilog District, around 1:20 p.m. on Monday, July 1.

The crash involved a Toyota Hiace commuter van driven by Jeffrey Zabala, a 34-year-old resident of Cagayan de Oro City.

According to Zabala, he was driving on the Davao-Bukidnon National Highway toward Bukidnon when he lost control of the wheel due to the slippery road. He fell into an open creek before a property fence stopped his momentum.

Both Zabala and his passenger, John Carl Campos, 20, a resident of Cagayan de Oro City, sustained injuries and were transported to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) by Central 911 personnel for treatment.

The Marilog police are continuing their investigation into the incident.

Elf truck driver and helper injured

Meanwhile, an elf truck driver collided with a prime mover truck in front of the Sumifru gate exit in Barangay Tibungco, Bunawan District around 10:30 p.m. on July 1.

The prime mover driver was identified as John Ross Mecarte Pino, 41. However, the injured elf truck driver and helper remained unidentified.

Initial investigation revealed that the Elf truck (AAS5031) was traveling along the Daang Maharlika Highway heading north in the second lane. The prime mover truck (WIW351) was exiting the Sumifru compound and, despite using its signal light, turned left directly into the path of the oncoming Elf truck.

Both injured victims were transported to Southern Philippines Medical Center by 911 paramedics for treatment. Both vehicles sustained damage, the extent of which is still being assessed.
