Sinister plan

  • House impeachment moves aim to dismantle Duterte family: Sara

VICE PRESIDENT Sara Duterte has claimed that the impeachment effort against her is part of a larger plan to dismantle their family, which is seen as an obstacle to some politicians’ wish to become president or prime minister.

According to the vice president, even if the House of Representatives denies any impeachment plans, this was already confirmed by some of their allies.

“They are discussing it, even though they deny it. Members of the House of Representatives are talking about it because we still have friends there who are not speaking out because they say they are afraid,’” she said.

She added, “They say it’s openly discussed, the impeachment.”

The vice president insisted that the Duterte family is being systematically targeted to diminish their threat, starting with former President Rodrigo Duterte, Rep. Paolo Duterte, to her husband, Attorney Mans Carpio.

“They want to project the family as corrupt, as criminals, as worthless people who only think of themselves. Why? Why? And all because, as I said before, we are a threat to the perpetuation of people who are interested in being… Let’s say, prime minister if their Cha-Cha (Charter Change) succeeds, or president if their Cha-Cha fails,” she said.

However, she is not afraid of impeachment because the position is not crucial to her. For instance, she did not seek a higher position and only agreed to be the vice president after some convincing from President Marcos Jr. and his sister, Senator Imee Marcos.

“They said, ‘We won’t win if you don’t help us in Mindanao and the Visayas.’ I told them, ‘Okay, fine. Because President Duterte had many big-ticket projects in Davao City, Mindanao, and other parts of the country that we want to continue.’”

“That’s why we ran on the platform of unity and continuity, which we no longer see now. Where are the big-ticket projects? They’re all gone. Unappropriated,” she said.

VP Sara added that even if she were removed as vice president or became Davao City mayor again, those hungry for power wouldn’t stop.

“You know, even if they remove me as Vice President, they will pursue me until the day they take office in 2028,” she said. “What I don’t like is the disrespect. We can part ways politically, but there should be no disrespect.”

When asked if she regrets helping President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who became her running mate in the Uniteam, she responded: “Do I regret helping? Do you want to answer the question? Or do you already know the answer?” she said.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives called speculations of impeachment efforts as “rumor-mongering” that needs to stop.

Some congressional leaders who faced the media in the House-sanctioned press briefing on Wednesday, Aug, 21, insisted there are no impeachment talks in the lower chamber.
