SHOW OF FORCE | 11,000 law enforcers to secure Kadayawan

MORE THAN 11,000 security forces will be deployed starting today, Aug. 5, to ensure the safety of Davaoeños and tourists for the month-long Kadayawan Festival.

DCPO spokesperson Maj. Maria Teresita Gaspan, during the “Madayaw Davao” program aired over the Davao City Disaster Radio on Wednesday, said the PNP would send 2,700 security personnel and reinforced by almost 9,000 more from the other members of the safety and security cluster.

“All in all, apil na ang other agencies under sa security and safety cluster, aduna’y 11,346 ka security personnel ang mu-provide og security coverage sa tanan nga activities sa pagbalik sa atong Kadayawan, (All in all, including the other agencies under the security and safety cluster, a total of 11,346 personnel will be providing security coverage on all the activities of our Kadayawan),” Gaspan said.

The DCPO spokesperson added that the city’s security cluster has considered the logistics of providing security for a crowd of tens of thousands expected to attend the festivities, especially during the biggest Kadayawan events.

Gaspan said the DCPO is concerned with providing security measures and imposing the minimum public health standards during the Kadayawan events.

She said wearing face masks remains a mandatory public health protocol that each individual and visitor must abide by.

The DCPO’s security forces would be augmented by security personnel from neighboring regions to safeguard the security of everyone fully.

“Most probably, naa gyud ta’y augmentation kay dinha pa lang sa Indak-Indak ug Pamulak, aduna ta’y 4,200 na itag-tag na personnel sa activity area mismo. Naga-estimate ta og 4,200 na personnel sa kana lang adlawa para mu-provide og security coverage (We will most probably have augmentation because in the Indak-Indak and Pamulak, we will deploy 4,200 personnel in the actual activity area. We are estimating 4,200 personnel to provide security coverage on that day alone),” Gaspan said.

The DCPO reminds Davaoeños and tourists against flying drones during the events unless they have secured the necessary clearances.

Just like in the previous Kadayawan celebrations, jackets, sharp objects, alcoholic drinks, and firearms are also prohibited from the activity areas. Parents are also discouraged from bringing small children during Kadayawan’s most crowded events.
