THE DAVAO City Water District (DCWD) said the septage management program (SMP) treatment plant’s construction is ongoing and will start its services this year.
Jovana Duhaylungsod, DCWD spokesperson, said the treatment facility in Malagamot Road in Barangay Indangan experienced a slight movement in terms of construction completion but she assured the service will be operational before the year ends.
Sitting on 3,300 square meters of land, the SMP is a city government and DCWD partnership that seeks to address the rising coliform levels in the city. With the program, septic tanks in residential areas will first be treated before being released into the open sea.
“One of the challenges in complying with the ordinance is the limitation of the service. So mao na si DCWD, as part of our mandate, to provide wastewater services, we will be offering the septic tank dislodging service and for us to do that, we have to finish ang planta sa Indangan,” Duhaylungsod said.
She said the program aims to implement the sewerage and septage management ordinance (0363-10 s. 2010) in Davao City, and for them to offer affordable and convenient septage dislodging services.
“Once the septage is collected from the customers, atoa na siyang ihatod didto sa planta, i-treat nato siya, para pagbalik nato sa kinaiyahan, of acceptable quality na siya,” she said.
She added that the water quality that they aim to achieve is more standard compared to other water septage qualities across the country.
“Very strict ang atoang regulations, as our water quality is Class B which is in the level of pwede panligo,” she added.
