A 60-YEAR-OLD woman perished in a fire that engulfed a residence in Residencia Del Rio, Block 1, Barangay Catalunan Pequeño, Davao City, at 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 20.
Davao City Fire District spokesperson Sr. Inspector Frances Mae Sendrijas reported the blaze totally gutted the house, constructed primarily of light materials and containing stored plastic and cardboard items.
Firefighters extinguished the flames by 11:04 p.m.
Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Intelligence Officer Senior Fire Officer 4 Ramil Gillado attributed the fire to unattended firewood.
Investigators believe the woman was trapped inside while sleeping due to the rapid spread of flames fueled by surrounding cardboard and plastic materials.
The bureau estimated the property damage to reach P10,000.
