Drivers asked to visit LTFRB XI to avoid arguing with commuters over P1 fare hike
THE LAND Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) XI urged jeepney drivers and operators to secure the certification from their office informing passengers about the P1 increase on the minimum fare.
While the certification is not a prerequisite to collecting the additional P1, it will help prevent complaints from customers who are unaware of the new fare adjustment.
The advisory of LTFRB follows the reports they receive regarding commuters who refuse to acknowledge the provisional fare hike that took effect on Oct. 8 and continue to pay according to the previous fare, which was P12 for traditional jeepneys and P14 for modern jeepneys.
LTFRB XI Legal Officer V Atty. Ernest Benz Davila said they will not issue a new fare matrix, so drivers must instead secure the paper and post it conspicuously inside their jeepneys.
“It is in the nature of a provisional fare increase and we cannot also impose additional fees to our operators without basis and as mentioned by our central office it is not required, so maybe on our part, we will disseminate information through our outlets,” Davila said.
“If the passengers and commuters are hesitant, they may go to our office or message us on Facebook and email, and we will be taking appropriate action if there is a need to,” he added.
The certification can be claimed at the LTFRB Office along Libby Road, Bago Gallera.
Davila said the provisional P1 fare hike will continue until the board lifts it.
