To highlight the exciting works of their young students, dancers and teachers on how they create and move, the Royeca Dance and Arts Centre launched their first young choreographer series last May 10, 2019. The dance styles are Classical Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop and Lyrical. The program was showcased by Yumi Morales, Kyzzhia Pauline Navarro, Claraine Mariel Lara, Jhorie Mae Janea, Jazy Calvelo, Wyeth Delos Reyes, Jazy Calvelo, Patrick Jardinel, Ian Pioquinto and Christopher Nino Royeca.
Each performance was a reflection of their student’s intensive four-week process of various techniques, creative teamwork, conversations of artistic exploration and dance improvisation. The intensive workshop is headed by Mr. Nino Royeca, a former Company Member of Ballet Philippines and now the Co-Artistic Director of the school. The school has recently invited Mr. John Ababon of Ballet Philippines to conduct a Contemporary Dance Workshop for the students.
Artistic Director MG Royeca says “We would like to empower and facilitate an environment of growth and exploration for young dancers and choreographers because we believe that everyone has his own world of possibilities.”
The event was graced by the special presence of Davao Tourism Association President, Mr. Gatchi Gatchalian, to inspire the youth with his experience as a choreographer during his college years at De La Salle University. With his pure passion and creativity, his dance piece won the Choreographers Cup. “Once a dancer or a choreographer one will always be a dancer or a choreographer” Mr. Gatchalian stated.
