IN LOVING memory of Bina Balchand, a commemorative art exhibition was held at La Herencia Davao to celebrate her enduring legacy as her family and friends celebrated her 72nd birthday on May 5, 2025.
Bina Balchand was an artist whose creative spirit left a mark on everyone she met. At the exhibition’s formal opening, Cherm, the host, said, “We remember, celebrate, and honor the memory of Ms. Bina through the colors she left behind on canvas and in our lives. Bina Balchand was not only a storyteller but a gentle soul who inspired many through her vivid works and quiet generosity. Her pieces reflect emotion, memory, and inner light – just like the woman behind them.”
Among Bina’s fellow artists who shared messages to give tribute were Ega Carreon, Dadai Joaquin, and Dinky Munda.
Pribhu Balchand, Bina’s husband, tells us, “Bina was born in Singapore, and grew up in Chennai, India, from age 11, and came to Davao in 1990. After marriage at 37, she struggled with an anxiety issue. She produced her art despite having to cope with this. One salient message of her art is Jesus Christ and His values. Bina has countless paintings of Jesus. She tried to fuse Hinduism, her religion for fifty years, and Catholicism, her religion for twenty-one years.”
Priya Chandiramani, Bina’s sister, relates how she remembered her sister’s birthday early morning and offered a prayer for her. “I trust that she is in eternal peace at the lotus feet of the Lord”.
The curator of the exhibition and Art Events Manager of La Herencia Davao was Mr. Wilfred Dexter Tanedo.
