SCENE CITY | ASADE arts and design exhibition

IN ART and design, the choice of medium directly influences how a message is communicated, affecting the audience’s content and experience.

For this year’s arts and design exhibit held by PWC of Davao Arts and Design Class chose for its theme “ASADE: Message as the Medium” as it focuses on the role of a medium not merely as a tool but as an essential means of communication.

This year, ASADE provides an opportunity to witness how the medium shapes meaning, evokes emotions, and facilitates understanding.

Through the student’s work, the audience observes how different mediums have been used to convey personal, cultural, and societal messages, offering insight into their creative processes and the stories they aim to communicate.

In summary, ASADE 2025 celebrates the relationship between creativity and message. Through mediums, whether utilizing traditional techniques such as painting and sculpture or employing modern approaches like digital media and interactive installations, the medium becomes an active component of the communication process.

“Message as the Medium” emphasizes that the medium, whether painting, digital tools, textiles, or other forms, plays a role in communication. It shows how something created can make an impact on what is being heard. This invites artists and audiences to consider the message behind the artwork and how the chosen medium shapes and transforms that message, into the main artistic expression.

This project is meant to create a safe space for all local artists to help voice their artistic expression; explore creativity and imagination by developing aesthetic awareness and visual sensibilities; produce an interdisciplinary student-led event to support student development and exposure; promote PWC as an inclusive institution with a significant trust level in their students’ creativity in both physical and digital art mediums; and inspire the audience to explore their creativity further and develop original ideas to help promote the creative and art scene in Davao City.

ASADE exhibition was held at the SM City Annex in Ecoland on May 16, 2025. The project was made possible with the support of the chancellor and COO of the Philippine Women’s College, Prof. Vicente Antonio V. Pijano III; tertiary education dean of college, Dr. Aristotle P. Carandang; and the PWC Finance office, Mrs. Brenda Z. Barba, who supervised the event with the aid of the FAID program chairs Emi Englis and Dr. Mariz Anne Laingo.

The fine arts and interior design cluster faculty assisted the program chairs.
