By June 30 at midnight the term of the new Davao City Council will commence. We expect that on the first session day of the new council, members will be delivering speeches that will outline their plans on what areas in governance they will desire to craft proposed ordinances.
We are hoping that they will focus on areas related to environment, planning for urban expansion, disaster prevention and mitigation, addressing informal settlers’ agglomeration in the city center, and fixing areas for industrial plants location.
Of course the first agenda that we feel appropriate is for the members of the next council to seek a meeting with the Executive Department so that the Legislative branch and the former will be able to harmonize the city’s short and long-term plans.
We believe that it is by harmonizing the thrust of both departments in the local government can the city succeed in its development objectives.
There is however, one potential problem in making the Executive-Legislative Branches harmonization meeting or workshop happen. This is because until now there is still no resolution to the issue of who will sit as Mayor of the city pending Mayor-elect former President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s official taking of his Oath of Office.
We can only hope that the said problem be settled soonest and the issue on who will assume as mayor will be put to rest.

We have this call for the attention of the new Congressman and Councilors of the Second district of Davao City.
We suggest that they take a closer look at Barangay Malabog. We are very positive that this place could become a major development area in terms of locating tourism establishments like in-land resorts, vacation houses or hideaways and even game parks.
One section in Malabog that could be very inviting to the moneyed seeking for a place to put up rest houses is the one from sitio Taloytoy going to Paquibato Proper. The topmost of the mountain range gives passers-by or potential wealthy settlers in the area a full view of the Pakiputan channel and the Island Garden City of Samnal.
The same location also gives a breath-taking view of Davao City’s downtown during the night. But of course, if they already have in their minds the development of Malabog the officials concerned must take into consideration the importance of retaining the present environmental and ecological condition of place as well as ensuring that no existing residents will be displaced.
We should however, be not surprised if the new Congressman and the district’s councilors will just consider the scenario one “wishful thinking’” or one of those “nebulous dreams” non-public officials can entertain.
Nevertheless, it is our take that so vast are the areas of Davao City that are also abundant of natural resources still remain untapped for the last many years. And we have this notion that these areas have remained in its state because only very few, if not none at all, have visited these places and seen what these can offer.

Will the trial of the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte finally take place? Somewhat likely.
This possibility came after the Senate referred the impeachment complaint to the Committee on Rules. The move is the formal start of the trial process. Also, last Monday Senate President Chiz Escudero took his oath as Presiding Officer of the Senate as the impeachment court.
It is our take though, as well as the projection of most Filipinos, that the trial will not be finished under the 19th Senate. What with the less than three weeks left before the end of the current senators’ term?
Therefore, the Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial will cross over to the 20th Senate. What happens then to the many constitutionality issues attendant to the trial cross over? Will there be some groups or individuals who will seek the intervention of the Supreme Court on the matter?
If such will happen, what then can we expect to come considering that the next Presidential election is in 2028?
Will the delay be to the advantage of the impeached Vice President, or those who are strongly seeking for her ouster>
Now, should we wonder why the Philippines can never achieve its long desired social and economic development status?
