A DELIVERY rider faces a charge after confessing to fabricating a story about being robbed by riding-in-tandem perpetrators in Sitio San Miguel, Barangay Catalunan Grande last Jan. 19.
Major Rosario Aguilar, Talomo Police Station commander, identified the rider as Bryan Mauring Sistual Capote, 20, single, and a resident of Kulagsoy, Barangay Tacunan.
During the initial investigation, Capote claimed that he parked his motorcycle beside the road to use the phone to call his customer.
According to him, two men approached him and asked for directions. Suddenly, the passenger dismounted the motorcycle and pulled out a knife while the driver pointed a gun at him. They then ordered him to turn over his collection amounting to P17,000 along with some parcels.
The robbers allegedly sped off after the incident.
In a follow-up investigation, a regular customer, identified as Marvin Baylosis, 44, a Barangay Catalunan Grande responder, told police that he expected a parcel from Capote that day but did not receive a call from the suspect.
Furthermore, Baylosis also did not notice any commotion or anything unusual at that time, considering his house was just a few meters away from where Capote parked his motorcycle.
Aside from this, nearby residents also echoed Baylosis’ observation.
Talomo police investigators found out that Capote transferred cash from his GCash account before he claimed to have been robbed. Coincidentally, the transferred amount of P17,464 was almost similar to the collection supposedly taken by the perpetrators.
When confronted by his employer, Capote broke down and confessed to lying about the robbery.
Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said the rider faces an alarm and scandal case, along with qualified theft.
“Then possibly an additional case will be filed against him as he caused fear on the safety and security of the people,” Tuazon added.
