Reyna ng Davao 2024 candidates push for inclusivity

ONE OF the 20 candidates of the Reyna ng Davao 2024 pushed for inclusivity, anti-discrimination, and empowerment for the LGBTQ community in Davao City.

During the press presentation at NCCC Buhangin on June 10, Jewel Chua Obelidhon, representing Barangay Marfori, advocates for equal job opportunities for trans women as trans women are still being discriminated against.

Obelidhon worked hard and applied to multiple companies internationally and locally until she got a job in Metro Manila.

“Back in 2016, when I graduated college I was applying for a medical representative job and I was being told that that industry is not yet open for trans women,” Obelidhon said.

Angel Montenegro, a candidate representing Barangay Matina, advocated for empowerment and livelihood programs for the hardworking members of the LGBTQ community. Montenegro also said that the city government has recognized the LGBTQ community.

“Because we don’t have any home for our pioneers of the LGBTQ community. In fact, we have in Pasay City in Luzon so we should have here in Davao City for us to be empowered LGBTQ community that we are not left behind by the generation,”  Montenegro said.

Joanna Ricci Alajar, City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) tourism relations officer, delivered a message on behalf of CTOO operations head Jenifer Romero during the Press Presentation. Her message is about showcasing the candidates not only their beauty but also their talents and resilience.

“This pageant is the reflection of our commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and empowerment to the LGBTQIA community,” Alajar said.

Reyna ng Davao Coronation Night, which will be held at the USEP Gymnasium on June 22, is one of Duaw Davao 2024’s 8 eight activities.
