SULTAN KUDARAT – The Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) of Glan, Saranggani released back to the wild a rescued tarsier on Feb. 1.
According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Soccsksargen, the tarsier was rescued the same day. It was released “after the small primate did not show any signs of injuries upon examination.”
The Philippine Tarsier was rescued in Purok Mangga, Sitio Calatungan, Barangay Burias, Glan, Sarangani Province.
Forester Abdul Cariga said a resident of the barangay, Julius Cononica, recovered the tarsier from a young boy and then immediately brought it to Punong Barangay Venancio Wata III, who later alerted CENRO officials.
It was found out upon the examination conducted by the municipal veterinarian of Glan, Dr. Vernie Rino Asperga, that the tarsier was “juvenile male tarsier.”
“It didn’t show any signs of injuries and was fit to be released back to the wild,” CENRO-Glan said in a statement, noting that the tarsier was freed by the authorities in an uninhabited area.
