Registration for cash aid for PUJ drivers suspended

The registration of public utility jeepney drivers who will receive financial aid from the government has been suspended.

In its Facebook page, the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) said that they need to fine-tune their procedures first to avoid risking the health of the drivers.

“This is due to our experience during our two-day implementation of the registration for the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)- Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa atong mga Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) Program para sa mga PUJ Drivers, wherein we have not observed proper social distancing which resulted to mass gathering,” the announcement read.

The CTTMO said that they are finalizing some guidelines for the people to follow in line with the TUPAD registration.

“Please wait for our further announcements. As of now, we are finalizing some rules for you to follow so that in our next application/registration days, we will be conducting proper protocols, especially social distancing,” it added.

The said measure is one way to avoid chaos during registration.

The city government, through DOLE, will be giving P11,880 per month to PUJ drivers affected by the impact of community quarantine.

TUPAD spokesperson Norman Baloro in a previous report said that the process will based on “first serve, first come” basis. The PUJ drivers are mandated to observe social distancing by only allowing half of their normal seating capacity.
