DAVAO Region’s exposure rates on television, radio, and print dropped in 2024 as the usage of internet platforms continues to dominate mass media, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority XI.
Based on PSA XI’s 2024 Functional Literacy, Education and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS), printed materials exposure rates, such as newspapers, dominated at 65.4% in 2019 and plummeted to 33.4% last year as online/digital newspapers grew at a high 52.9%.
Magazines and other printed media went from 74.6% to 52.4%, while posters dropped from
68.7% down to 52.5%, respectively, for the same period.
Radio’s exposure rate declined by 14.5% points from 78.4% in 2019 to 63.9% in 2024. The same can be said for television, which fell from 95.8% to 81.91%, and movies (cinema, DVD players) from 68.8% to 64.9%.
Digital platforms emerged in 2024, where video streaming sat at 64.6% and music streaming at 62.3%, including e-commerce platforms (39.4%) and government services and financial transactions (33.8%).
Internet use, particularly social media, reached a high of 77.5% in 2024 compared to the 66.3% in 2019. However, online use for work or research declined last year to 51.3% from 56.4% in 2019.
Davao Region’s proportion of households with cellular phones registered at 82.7%, with landline being the lowest at 6.9%. Additionally, mobile broadband topped household subscriptions at 33.1%, followed by movie streaming services (25.2%), and video streaming services (19.2%)
