THE LOCAL government allocated a smaller budget for the 39th Kadayawan Festival although the  City Tourism Operations Office promised a grand celebration that won’t shortchange visitors and Davaoeños alike.

During the iSpeak forum on July 25, Jennifer Romero, acting head of the City Tourism Operations Office, said the budget for this year’s festivities amounts to approximately P59 million.

The figure represented a P7 million decrease from last year’s P65 million budget.

She said of the total amount for this year, the private sector contributed a total of P11 million.

Meanwhile, Public Safety and Security Office head Angel Sumagaysay assured that the plan is already in place to secure visitors and residents for the upcoming festival.

The city anticipates some 250,000 visitors to participate in the celebration.

Sumagaysay said they are already 95% ready for the event with 20,484 security forces on standby.

He said they would also tap Central 911’s medical team and emergency responders to respond to any distress call.
