A NEWLY formed group has big plans for the e-sports industry in Davao City and Mindanao, beginning with the E-Palarong Pambansa Best of Davao City Qualifiers at the La Herencia Pavilion on May 28.
RBX Capital CEO Jerome Ochia said their vision is to elevate e-sports in Mindanao in two to three years.
RBX Architect and e-sports coach Roy Rebuta, also known as Coach Stark, is tasked to prepare the roadmap to materialize this vision.
Ochia highlighted the need to break away from dependence on Manila athletes for sports. He said RBX would attempt to replicate these efforts in Mindanao, providing venues, facilities, and top-notch coaches to nurture e-sports and enhance player performance in the region.
“Diri sa Davao man gud, human na tong mentality na magsalig ta sa Manila. Kaya man nato diri. And all it takes is just to take that big step and, of course, with the support of the Davao e-sports enthusiasts (Here in Davao, the mentality of depending on Manila is finished. We can do it here. And all it takes is just to take that big step and of course with the support of the Davao e-sports enthusiasts),” Ochia said.
Aside from their vision, RBX’s mission is to “transform Mindanao’s e-sports and sports scene through technology, revolutionizing the industry and guiding and inspiring the region’s youth to pursue opportunities in this field.”
Ochia revealed they will start at the grassroots level and the barangays before proceeding to schools, giving them educational programs to destigmatize e-sports among children and parents.
RBX will accommodate and support the final participants for the E-Palarong Pambansa qualifiers should they need any help in their training.
“Yung fire, nandun yung fire (The fire is there). All they need is just guidance. And we, RBX Capital, have the capability to do that. Guidance, coaching from grassroots to pro level. They should be international caliber players,” Ochia said.
