THE DAVAO Police Regional Office reported that rape topped the PNP’s eight focus crimes for 2023.
The eight focus crimes are homicide, rape, murder, theft, robbery, physical injury, car theft, and motorcycle theft.
Police Major Catherine Dela Rey, PRO XI spokesperson, said on Wednesday that Davao Region recorded 481 rape cases from January to Dec. 26, 2023.
Nevertheless, she said 90% of rape cases have been resolved and cleared, which means the perpetrators were identified and charged.
She said this type of crime remains a huge challenge for the police. However, they have strengthened crime prevention programs at the grassroots level to reduce the number of incidents.
