AROUND 3,000 personnel of the Police Regional Office (PRO) XI will be deployed starting Friday, Dec. 1, to provide security during the yuletide season in the region.
Speaking in the AFP-PNP press briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Nov. 29, PRO XI spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey said the 2,753 total personnel will go to their respective assignments for the Christmas season.
“They are also deployed, including to monitor (the use and sale of ) firecrackers,” she said.
Moreover, she advised the public to be more vigilant against pickpocketing or burglary. Typically, property crime incidents are on the rise during the holidays.
“This season, mostly crimes like theft and robbery increase, so we are also reminding the public that while they are outside they must secure their personal belongings.
Last Friday, the Davao City Police Office sent 10,000 security forces throughout Davao City.
In an interview on Tuesday, Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said there will be 4,731 personnel coming from the DCPO, along with an augmentation force from the Task Force Davao and police auxiliary.
Recently, DCPO chief Col Alberto Lupaz said they have calibrated and completed the security plan for the month-long celebration of the Pasko Fiesta. He said the police will continue to intensify its anti-criminality campaign as they expect a surge in petty crimes.
Pasko Fiesta is an annual celebration spearheaded by the City Tourism Office starting in the first week of December. Last year, the local government introduced and funded 14 events for Davaoeños and visitors, including free treats of ice cream and popcorn for children.
